Rafa Guzman
Staff / OtherRafael (Rafa) Morales Guzman is a second-year PhD candidate in Public Policy at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University, where he graduated with an Honor Distinction and achieved induction into the Pi Alpha Alpha National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. He has two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science from the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM). In addition to his formal education, Rafael has completed a Graduate Diploma in FinTech and Crowdfunding from Anahuac University (Mexico). Rafael also participated in the Cornell Nepal Study Program, where he conducted independent research on the financial performance of microfinance institutions in Nepal. His professional experience entails over a decade with the Central Bank of Mexico where his work focused on financial innovation in the Mexican banking system. His work is interdisciplinary, drawing from economics, political science, and public policy to better understand the dynamics of innovation and regulation in the digital finance space. He is currently researching the regulatory challenges posed by technology in the financial sector, focusing on alternative financing and digital currencies. Specifically, he is especially interested in exploring the effects of regulatory policy differences on institutions, organizations, and market dynamics in digital finance. Rafael is devoted to his family and when time allows, enjoys watching his favourite soccer team, Real Madrid.
